Description

Flat Face Pre-Cut Trigger for HOFFSS

VoidSpec Precision Components

The Flat Face Pre-Cut Trigger is a mil-spec AR-15 trigger with the cam interface cut required for use with the Hoffman Tactical Super Safety (HOFFSS) system. Drop-in installation, no jig work or trigger modification needed on the buyer’s end.

What it is

A mil-spec AR-15 single-stage trigger with a straight, flat-face blade in place of the traditional curved bow, precision-cut at the top contact surface to accept the cam from the HOFFSS dual-mode safety. Without this cut, the HOFFSS cannot engage the trigger in Active Reset mode. With it, the cam contacts the trigger cleanly through the BCG cycle and resets the trigger mechanically as designed.

This is the trigger you want if you’re building a HOFFSS rifle and you don’t want to do the cut yourself. The cut is the kind of work where small dimensional errors translate directly into unreliable reset behavior or unsafe fire control conditions — it’s worth getting right the first time.

Trigger feel

The flat face is the modern competition profile — a straight blade instead of the traditional AR-15 curved bow. The practical difference is leverage. With a curved trigger, finger placement varies depending on where the pad lands on the bow, which changes the effective pull weight and break feel slightly between shots. A flat face gives you a consistent contact point lower on the blade, which translates to a perceptibly lighter and more uniform pull at the same actual spring tension.

This is what most competition and precision shooters run on rifles that don’t already have an aftermarket trigger group. If you’ve shot a flat-face trigger before, you know what to expect. If you haven’t, plan to dry-fire extensively before live use — the feel is different enough that even small expectations about pull behavior can throw your shot the first few times.

Pull weight is in the mil-spec range. This is not a competition-tuned light trigger — it’s a reliable working trigger that does what the HOFFSS needs it to do without introducing unpredictable behavior into the active reset cycle. If you want a lighter pull, that’s a separate conversation and not one we recommend stacking with an active reset trigger system.

Build and finish

Machined to mil-spec dimensions with a flat-face blade and pre-cut for HOFFSS cam clearance on a CNC fixture to maintain dimensional consistency across units. Every trigger is dimensionally inspected before it leaves the shop, with particular attention to the cam interface — that surface determines whether the HOFFSS resets cleanly or hangs up.

The remainder of the trigger uses standard AR-15 fire control geometry, so it pairs with any mil-spec disconnector, hammer, and spring set.

Compatibility

Built for AR-15 platforms with:

  • Mil-spec lower receiver with standard fire control pocket
  • Mil-spec hammer and disconnector
  • HOFFSS dual-mode safety (this trigger is cut specifically for the HOFFSS cam — it will not work correctly with other Super Safety variants or unrelated active reset trigger systems)
  • M16-profile bolt carrier (required by the HOFFSS itself, not by this trigger directly)

If you’re not building a HOFFSS rifle, you don’t need this trigger — a standard uncut trigger will serve you better. This product exists specifically to save HOFFSS buyers the trigger-cut step.

Installation

Standard AR-15 trigger swap. Punch out the trigger pins, remove the old trigger, drop this one in with your existing hammer and springs, reinstall the pins. The cam interface cut is already done — no further work needed before installing the HOFFSS selector.

Function-check the rifle in every selector position with the BCG out of the gun before live use. Confirm Safe holds, Semi-Auto cycles, and Active Reset cam contacts the trigger at the correct point with the HOFFSS installed.

If you haven’t done AR-15 fire control work before, hand the build to a gunsmith. Trigger pins are easy to bend, hammer springs are easy to launch, and a misaligned pin can create exactly the kind of malfunction you don’t want to discover with the rifle loaded.

Legal responsibility

This trigger is a standard AR-15 fire control component with a modification to interface with the HOFFSS active reset system. The combined system (trigger + HOFFSS) is what creates the active reset behavior — this trigger alone in a rifle without the HOFFSS cam is just a slightly modified standard flat-face trigger.

That said, active reset and similar rapid-cycling trigger systems have been the subject of ongoing federal and state legal action; the regulatory status has shifted multiple times in recent years and continues to evolve. Several states restrict or prohibit these systems outright.

It is the buyer’s responsibility to verify that this component, and the HOFFSS system it pairs with, is legal to own, install, and use in their jurisdiction. VoidSpec does not provide legal advice — if there is any doubt, consult a firearms attorney in your state before purchasing. Safe handling, proper installation, and legal compliance are the responsibility of the owner.
